The Clarence Town Board adopted Vision Main Street on Wednesday, a design for business growth along the Main Street corridor that preserves the town's rural character and is more pedestrian friendly.
The plan was the result of a yearlong study by the Vision: Main Street Clarence Committee and was commissioned by the Clarence Industrial Development Agency.
The plan divides the corridor into three commercial hubs – Harris Hill, Clarence Hollow, and Sheridan at Thompson. Each hub is separated by rural zones that complement the business districts.
The population of Clarence has grown by 70 percent in the last three decades, according to the town's 2030 Comprehensive Plan, prepared in 2015.
Supervisor Patrick Casilio said the goal is to use Vision: Main Street to provide guidance for development while also maintaining the character of the street.
