Letter: Pat Sole Park improvements will benefit the community

Pat Sole Park improvements will benefit the community

On May 20, the Peace Bridge Authority held a ceremony rededicating Pat Sole Memorial Park on the West Side of Buffalo. After years of neglect the Peace Bridge Authority invested over $300,000 in total renovation of the park. Picnic tables, benches, playground equipment, safety fence, trees and plants were replaced, making this park the jewel of the West Side of Buffalo. Many residents and some city officials were unaware why this park was named in his honor.

Former Mayor Anthony Masiello, now a PBA member, was present along with former Council President George Arthur. Both of these former leaders played a part in giving a man who became a warrior for the Niagara District a place in the history of the West Side of Buffalo. Without the additional support many years ago of then-Council members Eugene Fahey, James Pitts, David Collins and Sole, this park would never have obtained the necessary funding.

Former Mayor Masiello was gracious to me personally in granting me the opportunity to once again be proud of this park. After years of neglect the Peace Bridge Authority has restored life to a community park. Finally the children and residents of the West Side have a beautiful and safe recreational space.

Elizabeth Sole

Former Council member
