John Murphy Show Recap: Practice updates, Ruben Brown talks Hall of Fame, Mike Tolbert talks snitches and more

Former Bills guard and weekly guest Ruben Brown joined John Murphy and Donald Jones on WGR-550 AM on Thursday.

Brown was on hand to talk about his recent candidacy for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Bills game vs. the Panthers and the importance of ex-player intel balanced against the ability of the team to exploit said weaknesses.

Mid-session (17 minutes in or so), Clark Judge of "Talk of Fame" came on with Brown, Murphy and Jones to talk about Brown's chances, as well as those of other candidates in the current crop of nominees.

Former Panthers and current Bills running back Mike Tolbert joined the show to talk Panthers-Bills matchup. Tolbert talked about his touchdown dance routine, the pressure to put on a good show post-touchdown, the change in focus when you get ready for a game, providing "tells" on his former team and their tendencies, whether Shady can handle the load and if the upcoming game is a step up in competition.

Bills insider Chris Brown also joined Murphy and Jones, and talked about the feel at practice, noting that Charles Clay's limited work was a step up from his ability to practice after games last year. Brown also quoted coach McDermott on Cordy Glenn's ability to receive increased reps as Glenn recovers from lower body injuries, McDermott's view on practice ability leading to playing, the important role familiarity will play with McDermott and the Panthers and how much of this week's focus is on McDermott's 'homecoming'.

Finally, Panthers tight end Chris Manhertz, former Canisius college basketball star, talked about his transition from the court to the field, his time with the Bills, what allowed him to get his NFL career on track, focusing on run-blocking as his calling card and his thoughts playing his former team.

Quotable

Donald Jones on Cam Newton: "If you get pressure on this guy, he'll cough it up."

John Murphy on seeing all four starters on bench late vs Jets: "I see what they're doing. ... They want no more than 30 snaps per player, no more, no less. ... I don't think it's anything personal to Marcell."

Ruben Brown: "It's good to know what they're trying to do, but you've got to be able to [take advantage] with your own guys."

Clark Judge: "I can't explain it, no knock on [Giants'] Steve Smith, but he shouldn't be on here."

Mike Tolbert on Thomas Davis: "There's nobody in the league I have more respect for...you can't help but take your hat off for a guy like that. Sunday at 1 o'clock, I'm coming to take his head off."

Chris Brown on practice tempo/feeling: "Certainly some good energy, some good vibes out here today."
