Tobacco-free group honoring Tonawanda leaders for a breath of fresh air

The Tobacco-Free Erie-Niagara Coalition at Roswell Park will honor City of Tonawanda leaders and students from New Life Christian School for their initiative to establish a smoke-free parks policy at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Veterans Park.

The Common Council approved the smoke-free policy at an August meeting and have begun posting signs, provided at no cost to the city by the tobacco-free group, that remind the public of the smoke-free policy.

City of Tonawanda parks are smoke-free. Signs donated by Tobacco-Free Erie-Niagara Coalition at Roswell Park.

Adherence to the smoke-free policy is voluntary.

The initiative was a year-long effort by student advocates from New Life Christian School who educated the board and shared their findings on the dangers of tobacco and how it impacts public places where children play.
