West Seneca man sentenced to community service

A West Seneca man will be spared jail time after pleading guilty to stealing from a social club while serving as its treasurer.

Craig Hicks, 61, was sentenced Monday to a three-year conditional discharge and required to perform 250 hours of community service by Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case.

In June, Hicks pleaded guilty to one count of grand larceny in the fourth degree and one count of falsifying business records in the first degree.

According to the Erie County District Attorney's office, between February of 2014 and April of 2015, Hicks stole $12,500 from the Carriage's Social Club in West Seneca while serving as its treasurer of the Carriager’s Social Club in West Seneca. The money was diverted from the club’s operating account and cash fundraisers.

Hicks has since made full restitution, according to the DA's office.
