Six to be ordained as deacons by Diocese of Buffalo

Bishop Richard J. Malone will ordain six men with the sacrament of holy orders of deacon on Saturday, Sept. 16 at a special Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St., Buffalo. Four of the six will continue their studies for the priesthood.

Two of these men will remain permanent deacons, Edward Birmingham of SS Joachim and Anne Parish in Attica and Kenneth Monaco, a chaplain at St. Joseph Campus of Sister's Charity Hospital in Cheektowaga and member of St. Ameila Parish in Tonawanda. Both men are married and have adult children.

Peter Nsa Bassey, a native of Nigeria; Paul Stanislaw Cygan, of Olean; Peter Santandreau, of Athol Springs and Gerard Skrzynski of Lackawanna are seminarians at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora. During their studies they have all had assignments in local parishes.
