Preservationists table plans from Cantina Loco owner to open a new deli

The city’s Preservation Board put the brakes on a plan from Kyle Mackiewicz to renovate the building next door to his Cantina Loco on Allen Street to open a new delicatessen that would offer another lunch option to the nearby Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

Mackiewicz wants to transform the two-story, 1900-era brick building at 185 Allen St. into Upper Cut Deli on the first floor and three apartments upstairs. He’s partnering with well-known Buffalo chef Mike Andrzejewski to run the deli.

Mackiewicz wants to return the building to the way it used to look, complete with Ford Model A cars in front of it.

Board members voted on Thursday to table the measure to allow time for them to visit the site and for Mackiewicz to provide more details.
