Paul Maziarz, the first director of facilities for the City of Tonawanda School District, will announce his retirement at the school board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 in the Tonawanda Middle/High School, 600 Fletcher St.
Maziarz, 67, who has worked for the district for 17 years, said he wants to take it easy, but also wants a smooth transition. His resignation will be effective Dec. 30.
Maziarz, a former electrician, became in charge of a $25 million capital improvement project at all five district buildings in 2000. He also oversaw the $12 million high school stadium project in 2012 and two energy savings projects.
"The old stadium on Main Street went back to the 1930s. It was very easy to convince the athletes and voters that we needed to build a new stadium behind the high school," Maziarz said.
