Court denies Cottman's bid to get back on County Legislature ballot

Erie County Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams will face no opposition in Tuesday’s Democratic primary following a Monday court decision denying last-minute efforts by former opponent Khalil Cottman to make the ballot.

James Ostrowski, Cottman’s attorney, said the one-time candidate for the County Legislature’s District 1 will not pursue qualifying for the ballot given the late date, with the decision coming one day before the primary. Ostrowski had been pursuing a court case seeking to reinstate Cottman’s candidacy after the Board of Elections ruled his designating petitions invalid.

County Attorney Michael J. Siragusa confirmed that state Supreme Court Justice Joseph R. Glownia denied Cottman’s last ditch motion to qualify for the ballot during court proceedings Monday morning.
