Police: 9-year-old boy rode bike into street before being struck, killed

A 9-year-old boy who died Sunday after he was struck while riding his bicycle apparently rode out into the street and into the path of a minivan, Buffalo police said.

The boy was struck at 3:40 p.m. at Jersey Street and Busti Avenue. The boy was transported to Women & Children's Hospital where he was declared deceased, police said.

Family members identified the child as Shamsan Fadel. They live on Busti Avenue, near where the boy was riding. The intersection is roughly a block south of Front Park on the West Side.

Police said the driver of the minivan, who was traveling south on Busti, stopped and remained at the scene.

Speed or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident and no charges have been filed as of early Monday afternoon, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
