Lewiston man, caught on video, admits burglary at neighbor's house

Sergio J. Cardenas of Lewiston admitted Thursday that he burglarized his neighbor's house on Ridge Road Jan. 24. The break-in was captured on video.

Cardenas, 32, pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary in exchange for a promise from State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. to sentence him to five years in prison and five years of post-release supervision. Kloch will make it official Nov. 2, and Cardenas remains in Niagara County Jail without bail in the meantime.

Assistant District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said a security camera mounted in the neighbor's home caught Cardenas entering. A gun and a pair of headphones were stolen. Cardenas is a second-time felon because of a previous weapons possession conviction.
