Academic partnerships helping students succeed

September, as students head back to school, is an exciting time of year and an empty slate waiting to be filled. But we know that not every story will be a success. Too many students face challenges that can prevent them from earning a high school diploma – the key that unlocks so many future doors.

For more than 600 Buffalo youth, the supplemental support provided by Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection – academic mentoring, life- and job-skills training and more – has been proven to make a real difference in their scholastic journey. HW-SC has partnered with the Buffalo School District for seven years, helping to greatly increase graduation rates and assisting students in reaching their full potential. In the 2016 academic year, 91 percent of participating Buffalo-area students who stayed with HW-SC throughout high school graduated on time.

The youth of our community deserve every chance to succeed, and we look forward to partnering with more students, families and schools to help them achieve their goals. I wish all young people the best of success as they begin this new school year.
