Congress must address immigration reform now
For perhaps the first time, I find myself in agreement with President Trump. When he “punted” the decision on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to Congress, he did the right thing. Even the necessary thing, given the spate of lawsuits initiated by several of the states.
Even if Congress can’t get its act together to pass comprehensive immigration reform, it can authorize DACA, which enjoys bipartisan support. This would be an easy first step, and perhaps get the ball rolling on the way to comprehensive reform.
I believe the president’s heart is in the right place on this issue.
The “Dreamers” are our kids! It would be shortsighted and against our own interest to simply (and cruelly) “throw them away.”
