Former Buffalo Bills guard and radio personality Ruben Brown joined John Murphy and Donald Jones on WGR-550 AM on Thursday.
Brown talked with the hosts about the Bills chances against the Jets, bold predictions fans are making for the week one tilt, and the importance of take aways in a Tampa 2 system as implemented by Leslie Frazier. Brown cited his experience seeing the defense firsthand when playing for the Chicago Bears, and the importance of getting Marcell Dareus off to a good start. Brown finished with an anecdote on how Marv Levy handled players and the fluid nature of offenses gelling.
Chris Brown joined the show to talk about the new four-game high school series hosted by Pegula Sports and Entertainment, which will feature Chris Brown on play-by-play and Donald Jones on color commentary. Brown, Jones and Murphy shared stories of local teams in the area, the difference in preparation between the NFL and high school and a few stories of Murphy's start calling high school games. Brown also updated LeSean McCoy having a stomach bug and returning to practice prior to the end of activities.
Bills wide receiver Zay Jones joined the show to chat about his relationship with his dad (a former linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys), reflecting on Jones' first NFL game, being a part of the receiving corps that has been under upheaval — while trying to gel with Tyrod Taylor on field.
Jets.com's Eric Allen joined the show to talk to Murphy and Jones about the take on the Jets' season to come, the perception of 'tanking', the trades and personnel moves made this offseason in New York and how it affects the season and Kony Ealy's potential impact.
Bills V.P. of Operations and Guest Experiences Andy Major also joined Murphy and Jones, and he talked about, and also took questions on the phone from fans regarding wifi connections, the opening anthem plans, and other in house concerns.
John Murphy: "I don't care what Rex Ryan says, this is the game I'm looking forward to!"
Ruben Brown: "They stress taking the ball away in this system...and it's going to show on Sunday hopefully."
Ruben Brown (on Dareus): "If he shows up late, there's other ways to give him discipline for that. I personally would play those people. Marv would never take money, 50 dollars was the highest fine."
Zay Jones: "People make decisions in the best interests of the football team, and I believe in the front office."
