Williamsville native and Penn State graduate Kelly Seward will not play for the Buffalo Beauts this year.
The National Women's Hockey League announced on Wednesday that Seward took a career opportunity in the oil and gas industry in Pittsburgh. After going through the Beauts schedule with her employer, it was decided it would not be possible for Seward to play this season.
"Although the team is disappointed, they completely understand the decision and are very happy for Kelly," the league said in an email to reporters. "As is always the case in these situations, the NWHL supports the players in their decisions and keeps the door open for down the road."
Seward had signed with the Beauts son July 21. She graduated from Penn State in 2017 and in her four-year career as a defender for the Nittany Lions scored five goals with 29 assists in 142 games. Seward is an alumnus of Nichols and played in the Buffalo Bisons program.
