Mercy Hospital plans MRI suite expansion

The Catholic Health System plans to build a new MRI suite in a proposed addition at Mercy Hospital on Abbott Road that officials say is needed to meet increased demand for imaging services, and to provide additional office space and conference rooms.

The $5.1 million project, which goes before the city Planning Board on Sept. 11, calls for demolishing a one-story building at the southeast corner of the Mercy campus in South Buffalo near Choate street that had connected the main hospital to a former mobile MRI trailer to accommodate the new two-story addition. The proposed building is 8,100 square feet.

The state has approved a certificate of need application for construction, which is anticipated to take about 12 months to complete and start in November, pending an OK from the city.
