North Tonawanda man charged with stealing meat

Chad Bower (Provided by City of Tonawanda Police)

A North Tonawanda man stole meat from a Tops Market on Niagara Street in the City of Tonawanda but was caught after fleeing on a bicycle, according to City of Tonawanda Police.

Chad Bower, 44, of Sweeney Street, was apprehended about 8 p.m. Monday after police found him underneath a crawl space below a restaurant on Webster Street in North Tonawanda, according to police.

After he fled the Tops store, police said they spotted Bower at Goundry and Manhattan streets in North Tonawanda, where he ran into an apartment building. After entering the apartment, he dropped the items and fled through a back door, police said. The occupants of the apartment later told police that they did not know Bower.

Police said they caught up with Bower as he hid in a crawl space at the Webster Bistro, and took him into custody.

Officers recovered $80 worth of meat that allegedly had been stolen, according to Tonawanda City police. Bower was charged with petit larceny and obstructing governmental administration, authorities said.
