Beer news: Perry's porter, fall fest at Calhoon's, Minky Boodle

BNBA partners with Lyft

Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association has announced a partnership with ride-sharing service Lyft, in an effort to provide safe travel options to brewery customers. New users that download the Lyft app and use promo code “BNBA” will get four $5 credits toward rides.

A seasonal brew

Perry's Pumpkin Pie Porter is the third beer in a collaboration between New York Beer Project and Perry's Ice Cream. The new beer will be released at 5 p.m. Sept. 7 at NYBP (6933 S. Transit Road, Lockport). Also,  $1 from every pint sold will be donated to Buffalo Women and Children's Hospital. Call 743-6927.

A fall fest at Calhoon's

Calhoon’s Pub (2598 Main St., Newfane) will hold its Fall Fest from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sept. 9. A fundraiser for the Equi-Star Center, the event will have food, basket raffles and music by The Strictly Hip at 6 p.m. Tastings will be from Community Beer Works, Lockhouse Distillery and BlackBird Cider Works. Celtic celebration

Woodcock Brothers Brewery (638 Lake St., Wilson) is throwing its annual Dust Off Your Kilt party at 6 p.m. Sept. 9. The event features Celtic music by Pour Ould Goat, corned beef dinner specials, open-faced skillet Reubens, and nitro dry Irish stout on tap. The event is in support of the Niagara Celtic Heritage Festival, which takes place Sept. 16-17.  Call 333-4000.

Brewpub's Oktoberfest beer

Buffalo Brewpub (6861 Main St., Williamsville) recently released its Oktoberfest beer, which is the best-selling Oktoberfest-style beer sold at the pub. This beer is used by Mineo & Sapio to make some sausage, and Buffalo Brewpub offers a Thursday special featuring sausage steamed in the beer. Call 632-0552.

Peach flavors from 12 Gates, CBW

12 Gates Brewing Company (80 Earhart Drive, Williamsville) will release its new Resting Peach Face, brewed in collaboration with Community Beer Works, at 4 p.m. Sept. 6. The beer is a 3.6 percent ABV (alcohol by volume) Berliner Weisse conditioned on fresh peach puree, made with German pilsner malt and white wheat and Saaz hops. Call 906-6600.

More Minky Boodle

Thin Man Brewery (492 Elmwood Ave.) is releasing a new batch of its sour raspberry beer, Minky Boodle, on Sept. 8. The 7.8 percent ABV beer is fuschia colored and loaded with bright acidity, mingled with round berry character and a crisp body. Call 923-4100.

 

Celebrating Remarkable

Mr. Goodbar (1110 Elmwood Ave.) and Coles (1104 Elmwood Ave.) are hosting a tap takeover  celebrating the five-year anniversary of Remarkable Liquids, craft beer distributor and importer. The celebration will take place Sept. 15 to 17, and features a number of beers from Remarkable’s portfolio as well as Cantillon bottle pours. Remarkable Liquids also teamed up with Mr. Goodbar, Coles and Community Beer Works to brew Thick and Sticky Double IPA (India pale ale), a 9 percent ABV New England-style double IPA that will be on tap at all locations.
