'Greatest Comeback' 25th anniversary celebration planned for Sunday as Bills announce 2017 promotions

Prepare to relive the greatest comeback of all time.

The Buffalo Bills announced their promotions and giveaways for the 2017 season, starting with Sunday’s season opener against the New York Jets. At halftime, the Bills will hold a ceremony to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the team’s comeback victory over the Houston Oilers on Jan. 3, 1993, a defining moment for the franchise and one of the most memorable NFL games ever.

Here is what the Bills have planned for each home game this season:

• Week One: Sunday, Sept. 10 vs. Jets.

The team’s annual Alumni Weekend will take place, including a VIP gala, tailgate party and celebrity charity golf classic. Inside the game-day program will be a commemorative 25th anniversary Comeback Game ticket. A rally towel will also be given away at the gates.

• Week Three: 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24 vs. Broncos.

As part of the NFL’s Play 60 initiative, which promotes health and fitness among children, the Bills and the Independent Health Foundation will host students who completed the Play 60 Challenge and Fitness for Kids Challenge in a pregame on-field ceremony. The team will also present the 2017 Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award prior to kickoff. The Penn State marching band will perform at halftime. The gate giveaway is ECMC pocket bandages.

• Week Seven: 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22 vs. Buccaneers.

The Bills will honor a group of cancer survivors on “Stampede Row” during pregame ceremonies as part of the NFL’s “Crucial Catch” campaign, which seeks to encourage early cancer detection and screening. The Ohio State marching band will perform at halftime. The gate giveaway is a Yowie.

• Week Eight: 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29 vs. Raiders.

A pregame tribute to first responders and hometown heroes will take place. At halftime, running back Cookie Gilchrist will be inducted to the team’s Wall of Fame. A magnet is the gate giveaway.

• Week 10: 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12 vs. New Orleans.

The Bills will honor the six branches of the military during a pregame ceremony as part of the NFL’s “Salute to Service” initiative. A full-field American flag will be unfurled before the game. A dog tag is the gate giveaway.

• Week 13, 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3 vs. Patriots.

The Bills will participate in the “My Cause My Cleats” program that allows players to display causes that they are passionate about through customized footwear. A Panini card pack is the gate giveaway.

• Week 14: 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10 vs. Colts.

As part of Family Day, families can take advantage of discounted ticket prices through the Family Pack, which includes four 200-level tickets, four hot dogs, four bags of chips and four bottles of water or pop. The High School Coach of the Year Award will be given out during a pregame ceremony. The gate giveaway is a winter scarf. • Week 15: 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17 vs. Dolphins.

USA Football’s NFL FLAG and Heads Up Football programs will be celebrated. The Heads Up program focuses on proper safety techniques and best practices for youth football players, while NFL FLAG gives children ages 5-17 the chance to be physically active through non-contact play.
