Two women who helped to organize the January Women’s March on Washington will present a free lecture Sept. 26 in the Canisius College Montante Cultural Center, at the corner of Main Street and Eastwood Place.
National co-chairs Tamika D. Mallory and Bob Bland will speak at 7 p.m. on “Building Trust: Organizing for Social Justice.”
Mallory worked with the administration of former President Barack Obama as an advocate on issues of civil rights, women's rights, health care, gun violence and police misconduct. Bland is founder and chief executive officer of Manufacture New York, a fashion incubator/factory devoted to independent designers and the production and marketing of clothing, shoes and accessories.
Mallory and Bland were two of four co-chairs of the march that mobilized 5 million people to call attention to the nonviolent ideology of civil rights.
The lecture is part of the college's William H. Fitzpatrick Chair of Political Science Lecture Series.
