The basketball court where City Honors student Lamont Edward Yancey Jr. enjoyed so much time will be dedicated in his memory this month during the school's annual back-to-school gathering.
Lamont died of a heart condition in September 2015 after collapsing while playing basketball at Masten Park. He was 15 years old and a member of the City Honors junior varsity basketball team. He also was known for his strong sense of community service and involvement in his church.
On Sept. 15, the Masten Park basketball court will be dedicated to Lamont, in support of all young athletes from City Honors and the Olmsted school communities. The dedication is being presented with the support of Erie County Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams, Mayor Byron W. Brown, Common Council President Darius G. Pridgen, City Honors Principal William Kresse and schools Superintendent Kriner Cash.
