Pick out a pet from local animal rescue and shelter groups

It will be one-stop shopping Sept. 9 if you're looking to adopt a dog or a cat.

Local animal rescue groups, fostering networks and animal shelters will partner with Erie County Emergency Services and the Erie County Health Department, spotlighting adoptable animals in their care, to help them get adopted into loving homes.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Erie County Emergency Services Training and Operations Center, 3359 Broadway, Cheektowaga.

Every pet adopted will receive a free microchip and registration, courtesy of the Erie County Health Department, and an adopter goodie bag from TLC Pet Food.

The event also is in observance of National Preparedness Month and will feature demonstrations from the Erie County Sheriff's Department, HAZMAT and Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue. There will be other interactive activities, prizes, raffles and food trucks.
