Police agencies across Erie County will be out in force Labor Day weekend – with nearly 175 extra hours of DWI patrols assigned this weekend.
The roving patrols are part of the Erie County DWI Police Lifesaver Patrols, a joint effort of the Erie County Chiefs of Police Association, the State Police, Erie County Sheriff's Office and the Erie County Executive's office.
In addition to regular patrols, there will be additional patrols in Orchard Park, West Seneca, Evans, East Aurora, Lancaster, Kenmore, City Of Tonawanda, Orchard Park, Springville, Hamburg, Eden and the City of Buffalo.
Sheriff's deputies and troopers also will have extra patrols and a checkpoint set up over the weekend.
Motorists in the area are being advised to make arrangements for a safe ride home if they become too inebriated to drive home safely.
To see local options and learn more about the consequences of driving while intoxicated, the state has created a "Have a Plan" App that can be downloaded here: http://stopdwi.org/mobileapp.
