FLOW OF HISTORY – The Buffalo Industrial Heritage Committee, which originated the exploration of the city’s grain elevator district three decades ago, wraps up its 32nd season of Historic Buffalo River Tours with a cruise Monday, Labor Day.
The tour will leave the Miss Buffalo dock at Erie Basin Marina at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $19 for adults and $13 for children ages 4 to 11. For reservations, call 856-6696. For other information, visit buffaloindustrialheritage.com.

BIG NIGHT – The 26th annual Farewell to Summer gala to benefit Orchard Lake Seminary in Orchard Lake, Mich., will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. next Thursday in the Millennium Hotel Buffalo, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. Bishop Richard J. Malone, former Bishop Edward U. Kmiec and Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Grosz have been invited.
The seminary, which prepares men for the priesthood, includes a number of young men from Poland who will be serving in American parishes after they are ordained.
Tickets are $30 and are available by mail. Checks payable to Orchard Lake Seminary, along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope, should be sent to Edward J. Reska, 4654 Kingswood Lane, Hamburg, NY 14075-2507. Deadline for reservations is Saturday. For information, call 648-0370.

Rita Auerbach's painting "Chautauqua Classic"

BRUSHING UP – Local painter Rita Auerbach will be featured in a program titled “Portrait of an Artist: Rita’s Journey on the Palette,” at the next luncheon meeting of the WNY Pen Women at noon Sept. 9 in the Eagle House, 5578 Main St., Williamsville.
