Crash on Niagara Thruway slows rush hour traffic downtown

Afternoon rush hour traffic came to a crawl on a section of the northbound Niagara Thruway (I-190) following an accident near the Elm Street exit in downtown Buffalo at about 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.

A Buffalo Fire Department dispatcher said that an ambulance was sent to the scene. NITTEC reported that the left lanes were closed.

A Thruway dispatcher said that one vehicle was involved and there was an unspecified injury.

Traffic returned to normal within an hour.
