Vincent F. Dentico, of West Seneca and Boca Raton, Fla., founder of Fortuna Food Brokers, died Sunday in Mercy Hospital. He was 87.
Born in Buffalo, he grew up on the West Side and attended city schools.
Mr. Dentico started in the food brokerage business as a salesman in the 1950s and was representing the makers of Margherita Pepperoni when he decided to become an independent food broker.
He established Fortuna Food Brokers in 1975, serving as president, and made Margherita the most popular pepperoni line in Western New York. He won several national Broker of the Year awards.
After expanding the company through several mergers and acquisitions in the 1990s, he took an advisory role about 10 years ago. Today the company, Affinity Group, based in Elma, is a nationwide organization headed by his son.
Mr. Dentico enjoyed dining in fine restaurants, horse racing, visiting casinos and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Ginevra Brancoforte; a son, Enzo; a daughter, Desiree; and six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 8:45 a.m. Thursday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court at Maple Road, Amherst.
