Derby's Skalski honored by national fly fishers group

Len Skalski of Derby, a founding member of the Lake Erie Chapter of Fly Fishers International, was recognized recently with the Lew Jewett Memorial Life Award “for promoting the sport through distinguishable effort to draw more people into fly fishing and enhance the knowledge and ability of the fly fisher.” He received the award at the Fly Fishers International 52nd Annual Conclave held in Livingston, Montana.

Skalski was instrumental in working with youngsters at the Lake Erie Chapter's annual Ray's Kids Day, is a volunteer (was a coordinator for 10 years) to Project Healing Waters, organized the course manual for "Beginner Fly Tying" that the LEC teaches to adults and many other contributions to the sport of Fly Fishing. He has also worked with the Boy Scouts at Schoelkoff. This is the Lake Erie Chapter's third International award in five years, including International Club of the Year in 2015.
