BERLINGHOFF, Richard "Red"

BERLINGHOFF - Richard "Red"
Entered into rest August 18, 2017 at age 90. Richard was born in Buffalo, NY to George E. and Helene (Casey) Berlinghoff. He enlisted into the Navy Seabees at a very young age and served in WW-II where he participated in the historic Battle of Tarawa. After the war, he re-enlisted and served in the Navy once again during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he followed in the footsteps of his father and in 1958 joined the Town of Tonawanda Police Department. While there, he was a Patrolman as well as a Motorcycle Officer. Richard was also a member of the T.T.P. Underwater Dive and Rescue Squad. Upon retirement, he enjoyed spending winters in Florida enjoying his love for motorcycles, computers, reading and photography. Richard is survived by his sister Phyllis (late Melvin) Shaffer; brother, Robert C. (late Lois Fleegal) Berlinghoff. He is preceded in death by his brother George E. Berlinghoff Jr. and sister Mary Lou (John) Brach. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral private and provided by Lombardo Funeral Home, Amherst.
