Aug. 24 – Hoot and Shoot Fundraiser at Tonawanda Sportsmen’s Club, 5657 Killian Road, Pendleton from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to benefit Sen. Rob Ortt. RSVP maddilyngenovese@gmail.com.

Aug. 24 – Annual Waterfowl Hunter Information Meeting at the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, Casey Road, Alabama from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Aug. 27 – Free admission to the NYS Fair, Syracuse if you show your hunting and fishing license (this day only). I Love NY Bass Tournament on Onondaga Lake 7-11 a.m. with weigh in at the Fair. Family fishing day for kids at the Fair pond 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Aug. 27 - Evans Rod & Gun Club located on 864 Cain Road, will be holding a 30-target Funanza 3-D shoot from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids under 12 free. Food and Beverages served. Call Ray at 866-5072.

Aug. 29 – NYS Pistol Permit Certification Class hosted by the Genesee County Chapters of SCOPE at Calgary Baptist Church, 3515 Galloway Road, Batavia starting at 6 p.m. Call Jim Carr at 778-9431 to preregister.

Aug. 31 – Deadline to sign up for Bowhunter Sighting Log. Email wildlife@dec.ny.gov and put BowLog in subject line. Include name, address and back tag number, as well as the county you hunt.

Sept. 1 – Deadline to submit an application to hold a sponsored pheasant hunt in New York State. Program requirements and applications can be found at http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/49071.html.

Sept. 1 – Opening of the Canada goose nuisance hunting season in upstate New York through Sept. 25.

Sept. 1 – Goat Island Adventure Walk from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Niagara Falls State Park. Call 282-5154 to register.

Sept. 1 – Early nuisance Canada goose season in Upstate NY through Sept. 25. Find regulations at www.dec.ny.gov.

Sept. 1 – Gray, black and fox squirrel season starts in Upstate New York. Daily limit is 6 squirrels per person per day.

Sept. 2 – Alabama Gunslingers Shoot at the Alabama Hunt Club starting at 9 a.m. Call John Szumigala for more information at 714-5514.

Sept. 4 – Final day, Lake Ontario Counties Trout and Salmon Derby, ending at 1 p.m. Top two places and grand prize must attend the awards ceremony in Sodus Point at Marlin’s Restaurant by 4 p.m.

Sept. 9 – WNY Kayak Anglers Bass on the Oak Tournament from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. $20 entry fee. Weigh in at the Black North Inn.

Sept. 9 – Women Conquering Outdoor Adventures Day at North Forest Rod & Gun Club in conjunction with the Ladies Shoot N’ Hoot Program from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Choose four workshops out of 13 possible sessions. RSVP by Sept. 1. Call Colleen Gaskill at 628-9023. Registration is $65.

Sept. 9 – High Power Rifle Tournament at East Aurora Fish and Game Club, Luther Road, East Aurora starting at 10 a.m. Call Dave Romanczak for more info at 652-8577.

Sept. 10 – Monthly shoot and meeting at the Alabama Hunt Club, Lewiston Road, Alabama starting at 11 a.m. Black powder shooting. Call John at 714-5514 for more information.

Sept. 10 – Bike the Buffalo Harbor at Buffalo Harbor State Park from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Call 282-5154 to register.  Bike helmet is required.
