I know, I'm sorry. I don't mean to rush things, but I mean we are more than halfway through August. That being said, there is plenty of time to squeeze in some must-dos with your little ones. If you haven't done the three things listed here - I'd encourage you to try your best to fit them in. Your kids will thank you.
Head to Canalside
There's just so much to at Canalside. Remember, just a few years back, when Canalside didn't even exist? It has come a long way in a very short time.
We love the giant sandbox and make it there several times during the summer. There also is plenty of fun, free activities just about all day everyday. From magic acts, to sing-alongs to story time and much more. Plus, you have the beautiful water, vendors, snacks and grill foods and ice cream to purchase.
The Outer Harbor really is a jewel. It is beautiful, well maintained and has plenty to do for the entire family.
Head down to Wilkeson Pointe and take a walk or a bike ride around the beautiful harbor. You can bring a bike or rent a fun family-sized cruiser and check out the sights. There is a small beach, volleyball court, loads of hiking and biking trails. Bring a blanket and have a picnic. You can rent a kayak and get out on the water, too.
It's one of those outings that is so close to home, but somehow makes you feel like you're a million miles away on a fabulous vacation.
See a movie outside
This really is one of our favorite things to do in the summer. There's something special about sitting on a blanket with some snacks and watching a movie under the stars. The kids love it. Of course, they dress for the part, depending on the movie. We brought our own little Princess Anna to see "Frozen" at Artpark.
Don't forget the popcorn, bug spray and blanket or chairs.
There are plenty of options for movies. They are free and begin around dusk. Here are some options.
Canalside. Aug. 22, "Space Jam" and Aug. 29, "Beauty and the Beast."
Flicks on Old Falls Street, Niagara Falls. Aug. 24, "Moana" and Aug. 31 "Pete’s Dragon."
Chestnut Ridge Park, Orchard Park. Aug. 20, Disney's "Ratatouille."
