Joseph G. Critelli, 73, retired North Tonawanda science teacher

Joseph G. “Jerry” Critelli, a retired North Tonawanda teacher, died Monday in the Niagara Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Niagara Falls, after a brief illness. He was 73.

Born Joseph Gerald Critelli in Niagara Falls, and a graduate of Niagara Falls High School, he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Buffalo State College.

Mr. Critelli began his career in the North Tonawanda schools in 1968. He taught science at Payne Junior High School and North Tonawanda High School.

He retired in 1996.

Mr. Critelli was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Niagara Falls and was active in the annual Ashland Avenue reunion, which brought together a group of men who grew up together in Niagara Falls.

He enjoyed boating on the Niagara River and golfing.

A longtime resident of Niagara Falls, he also lived in Lewiston and Las Vegas.

He moved to North Tonawanda a couple of years ago.

Survivors include a brother, Edward; a nephew, Paul; and several cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon Friday in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls.
