Hamburg Central taxes down for second year

Taxes will go down for most Hamburg Central School District taxpayers.

This is the second year the district has had a negative tax levy, which meant the levy cannot go over $34.94 million, which is about 1 percent lower than last year.

Board members have set the tax levy and rates which include: Hamburg, $35.36 per $1,000 of assessed value, down 96 cents or 2.63 percent; Eden, $29.19 per $1,000, down 89 cents or 2.95 percent; Boston, $21.13 per $1,000, up 21 cents or 1.02 percent; and Orchard Park, $35.36 per thousand, down 62 cents or 1.72 percent.

The tax rate for Boston residents increased because New York State lowered the equalization rate for the the town.
