Niagara announced its full 13-game non-conference slate on Thursday, which includes games against Big Ten, Atlantic 10 and West Coast Conference opponents.
“We have a challenging out of conference schedule that begins with a traditional rivalry at St. Bonaventure,” Purple Eagles' head coach Chris Casey said in a release. “The Barclays Classic will feature two road games against BYU and UMass and two home games in a four-team tournament hosted at the Gallagher Center. We also have an additional four games scheduled at home and the six total home contests are the most we've had on campus in a number of years. A road game at Minnesota, which should start the season in the Top 25, adds to the competitive level of the schedule. Overall, the schedule should prepare us well for MAAC conference play.”
Niagara begins its 2017-18 slate at St. Bonaventure on Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. Five days later, the Purple Eagles travel to Minnesota for a date with Minnesota, who played in the 2017 NCAA Tournament under head coach Richard Pitino. Niagara's next four games will be part of the Barclays Center Classic, with the first two on the road and the second two at home. Casey's squad first visits UMass on Nov. 19 and then BYU on Nov. 21. Niagara's first two home games of the year come Nov. 24 against Alabama A&M and Nov. 25 against either Western Carolina or Texas Arlington.
The rest of Niagara's non-conference slate is as follows:
Nov. 27 vs. Army
Nov. 29 vs. Buffalo
Dec. 5 @ New Hampshire
Dec. 10 vs. St. Francis (PA)
Dec. 16 @ Norfolk State
Dec. 19 vs. Cleveland State
Dec. 23 @ Cornell
Casey enters his fifth season as Niagara head coach and the team returns its entire starting lineup from a year ago.
