Vincent J. Donnelly Jr., professor emeritus of business, accounting and finance at Erie Community College, died Friday in his Orchard Park home. He was 73.
Born in Buffalo, he was a 1962 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Tri-State University in Angola, Ind., where he was social chairman of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.
Drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War, he served in Korea as a payroll and disbursement specialist.
Returning from service, he taught business and accounting at Canton Agricultural and Technical College while studying for his master’s degree in business administration from Clarkson University.
He began his 32-year career at ECC in 1974, teaching one of the first classes offered – an 8 a.m. course – on the new South Campus in Orchard Park.
A longtime member of Orchard Park Country Club, he enjoyed golf, historical nonfiction, crossword puzzles and observing wildlife.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, the former Kathryn L. Berst; three daughters, Meg Metcalf, Betsy Johnson and Molly Roe; a sister, Marianne Kaczynski; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 26 Thorn Ave., Orchard Park.
