Lockport principal still on leave despite acquittal

James A. Snyder, the principal of a City of Lockport school, remains on paid administrative leave despite his acquittal on child endangerment charges six months ago.

"Mr. Snyder still has his job. He's still the principal of North Park Junior High School. He's just on administrative leave," Lockport School Superintendent Michelle T. Bradley said.

Snyder's annual salary is $120,252. He's been paid $117,786 while on leave.

On July 6, the Board of Education appointed Bernadette Smith, an assistant principal at Lockport High School, as acting North Park principal. Bradley said it was an open-ended appointment and he declined to comment on whether the board plans to revisit Snyder's status.

Snyder was accused of making a suggestive comment to an 11-year-old girl and of throwing a plastic bottle at his daughter at the daughter's birthday party in July 2016.
