The top eight drum corps in the world are expected to add 2.4 million steps on Sunday during the 50 million step “Walking to Wellness Initiative” in Western New York.
The 20th annual Drums Along the Waterfront – Tour of Champions event returns at 7 p.m. to New Era Field in Orchard Park. Drum corps scheduled to compete include the reigning world champion Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio, along with the 17-time DCI World Champion Blue Devils of Concord, Calif.
The walking initiative is the brainchild of the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo, which encourages events and individual walking efforts as a pathway toward better health. For more information, visit healthycommunitynetwork.com.
Advance tickets for Drums Along the Waterfront range from $25 to $45, with children 12 and under half price and discounts available for seniors, members of the military and groups. For ticket information, visit drumsalongthewaterfront.org. Tickets also will be available starting at 4 p.m. Sunday at New Era Field; stadium gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Free parking will be available at the stadium at the Abbott Road and Big Tree Road entrances.
Drivers are encouraged to approach the stadium from both the north and south; please note that traffic is usually most congested near the intersection of Abbott Road and Southwestern Boulevard.
