Late rallies carried Orville's and Team Deb to victory Saturday and into the semifinals of the NABF Major Division Buffalo playoffs being hosted by the New Era Muny AAA. Both games were at Orchard Park High.
Orville's came from four runs down in the bottom of the seventh to eliminate the Orchard Park Sox. The winners strung together six singles in their winning rally with Ben Sserrano's walk-off hit ending it. Pat Sheehan had three hits and scored twice for Orvilles, who will meet Team Deb at 11:30 a.m. today at Johnnie Wiley.
Team Deb scored twice in the top of the eighth to defeat the Lake Erie Buckeyes of Cleveland, 8-6. Dana Cala started it with a walk, and stole second and third. Tom Styn tripled with two out to drive home Cala with the winning run, then scored on a single by Justin Ertel.
Josh Surowiec hit a three-run homer to give Team Deb a 4-0 lead that didn't stand up. Jack Lyman pitched two innings of shutout relief to get the win.
Meanwhile, JAMCO eliminated the Lake Erie Buckeyes, 5-1, behind the pitching of Jake Harford and Ricky Mendiola's home run at Erie Community College North. Earlier Battistoni Diesel defeated the OP Sox, 4-2, also at ECC North. Mike Wagner went the distance with six strikeouts and gave up four hits for Diesel. He also had an RBI single. Randy Moley drove home Rob Luehrsen and Jimmy Spano for the winners.
