Niagara Falls man charged with DWI following crash

A Niagara Falls man was charged with driving while intoxicated Thursday, following a one-car crash on Route 104 underneath the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, according to State Police.

Timothy O’Keefe, 48, was traveling north on Route 104 when he swerved to the right and struck a guardrail, State Police said.

O'Keefe's vehicle crossed four lanes of traffic, struck the opposite guardrail and caught on fire, State Police said.

He was helped from the vehicle by passing motorists and troopers put out the fire when they arrived at 3:21 p.m., State Police said. The Lewiston Fire Department assisted in keeping the vehicle from reigniting, troopers said.

O’Keefe was charged with DWI and failure to remain in his lane of travel, according to State Police.

He was charged additionally with aggravated unlicensed operation of motor vehicle because his driving privileges in the state were suspended, State Police said.
