The Rev. Robert Bellingham, a Presbyterian pastor for 50 years, died Friday in his Lewiston home under the care of his family. He was 87.
Rev. Bellingham received his schooling in music education at the Hamilton Conservatory and Moody Bible Institute. He received a bachelor's degree in theology at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn., and his master's degree in theology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif. He continued his education at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, where he received his interim pastoral training.
Rev. Bellingham began his work as a pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth, Ohio, where he served for seven years before coming to Western New York.
In Niagara Falls, he was the pastor of the Pierce Avenue Presbyterian Church for 22 years; the Third Avenue Presbyterian Church for nine years; and the Niagara Presbyterian Church for four years. He served for four years as the pastor for the First Presbyterian Church in Lewiston, before his retirement in 1996.
Rev. Bellingham also served as an interim pastor of various congregations throughout the Western New York Presbytery.
Rev. Bellingham is survived by his wife, the former Lena E. Albright, whom he married on Oct. 1, 1955. In addition, he is survived by his son, Gregory of Niagara Falls; his daughter, Janice L. of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, John, of Hamilton; and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 .m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
