Go-kart driver dies in roadway collision in Niagara Falls

A Niagara Falls man driving a high-performance go-kart on the 1900 block of Buffalo Avenue in Niagara Falls died Saturday after being hit by a Chevrolet Volt at around 2:45 p.m.

According to the Niagara Falls Police Department, the go-kart driver – after just having new equipment installed on his machine at a near-by auto shop – was westbound on the roadway when the go-kart spun around into the east-bound traffic.  The driver of the Volt was unable to avoid the go-kart, which became lodged under the car.

Niagara Falls Fire Department and AMR Ambulance crews responded and attempted to save the driver, but he was pronounced dead in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Police said he was not wearing a helmet. The man's name is being withheld until family and friends can be notified.

The driver of the Volt was not charged. The Niagara Falls Police Department's Crash Management Unit is handling the investigation.
