$17 million grant to save Lake Shore, Brooks hospitals

The state has awarded a $17 million grant to Kaleida Health to complete the effort to save Lake Shore Hospital in Irving and Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, State Sen. Catharine M. Young announced.

Part of the money also will be used to build a new facility to replace the current Brooks Hospital. A site has not yet been selected.

The two hospitals, which have struggled financially, affiliated with Kaleida last year.

"Approximately $101 million in state dollars has been allocated over the past few years to help fund the integration of both Brooks and Lake Shore hospitals into Kaleida," Young said. "This $17 million is the final piece to make sure the project happened."
