Feds settle car crash lawsuit for $490,000

The federal government agreed this week to settle a lawsuit stemming from an accident involving a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent.

The government, according to court records, agreed to pay $490,000 to Danielle L. Horner and her husband, Ricky D. Mason, as a result of a 2014 three-vehicle accident on the Thruway in Cheektowaga. Mason was not in the car at the time of the accident, but was a plaintiff because he owned the vehicle.

Horner, who was driving one of the cars, said the agent took his eyes off the road and rear-ended another car, which then struck Horner's vehicle. Horner also said she was seriously injured.

The government did not admit any negligence as part of the settlement.
