Loud muffler leads to Leandra's Law charge for Jamestown woman

A woman driving a car with a loud muffler early Monday was charged under Leandra's Law after an investigation determined she was driving while intoxicated, according to Jamestown Police.

Vanessa M. Maldonado, 31, of Jamestown, had a 6-year-old child in her vehicle at the time of the stop at 4:30 a.m. on Lakeview Avenue, police officers said.

Police said she also had cocaine in her possession.

She was held in Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment on charges of aggravated DWI, first-degree aggravated unlicensed driving, uninspected vehicle, unrestrained back seat passenger aged 4 to 6, endangering the welfare of a child and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to Jamestown Police.

Police said that Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
