Before the Town of Grand Island even began a feasibility study on whether it should build a new community center, controversy started brewing.
The town is inviting Grand Island residents to a public meeting to help develop plans for a new community center from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, in the Grand Island High School auditorium, 1100 Ransom Road.
Meanwhile, some residents received an unsigned notice in their mailboxes that questioned whether a community center is warranted and suggested that improving the current senior center was a better option. The letter also accused the town of spending beyond its means.
The town is in the process of finding out whether residents want a new community center, said Supervisor Nathan McMurray.
