First-round leader John Haberman Jr. shot 1-over-par 72 on Saturday to hold off Liam Knott and win the Western New York Public Links Golf Association individual championship on the Sheridan Park course in the Town of Tonawanda.
Haberman, who had a 73 in the first round on Friday, shot 145 for 36 holes, finishing four strokes in front of Knott and Matt Messing in the A Flight for golfers with handicaps ranging from 0 to 9. Knott, a former Sheridan Park Club Class AA champion, shot 1-under 70 on Saturday after an opening 79. Messing added a 75 to the 74 he shot for second place in the standings on Friday.
The B Flight (handicap of 10 and over) winner was Brian Spencer who shot 83-82-165. Dana Harrington, who was tied for the lead with an 83 on Friday, finished in fourth place with a 169. Gary Kinyon was runner-up with 86-81-167.
