David Adkins, who has overseen the launch of the Buffalo News' new website and the development of its new mobile phone apps since joining the company nearly four years ago, has been promoted to vice president of technology.
Adkins previously was the News' director of technology. He came to Buffalo from Sarasota, Fla., where he was director of systems and digital technology at the Herald-Tribune Media Group.
"David has been an integral part of our team," said Warren T. Colville, the News' publisher.
"His contributions have not only improved our technology internally, but have resulted in a better user experience for all of our digital readers," Colville said. "As our industry continues to evolve, David's expertise will be even more critical to the way in which people engage with our information."
Adkins, whose responsibilities also include cybersecurity, currently is working on ways to improve the user experience of the News' digital users and develop new ways to engage with them.
"Never before have so many possibilities existed to get information into people's hands. It’s really a great time to be in the media industry and see it evolve so quickly," Adkins said.
