Move forward with plan for city’s Olmsted parks

So, Chicago, “the Second City,” is borrowing Kevin Gaughan’s ideas to improve its Frederick Law Olmsted-designed park. Well, let’s make sure Chicago stays second, and move forward with Gaughan’s plans for Buffalo, recently endorsed by the National Olmsted Association.

Let’s thrust Buffalo back in a leadership role for other cities to follow. Moving the South Park Golf Course to nearby land and restoring Olmsted’s arboretum has been a community desire and stated goal of Buffalo’s Olmsted Conservancy for decades. And Gaughan’s added features of a Jack Nicklaus-designed public golf course, and a vocational training center for our inner-city youth, will be exciting, beneficial new amenities.

Let’s accept the challenge Chicago now presents and get our conservancy and entire Western New York community to support this plan. It will bring the national spotlight back on Buffalo.
