Royalton's first female town supervisor resigns

MIDDLEPORT -- Royalton Town Supervisor Jennifer Bieber resigned her post at Monday’s Town Board meeting, announcing she will start work as administrative director of the Niagara County Water District July 31.

Bieber will succeed Herbert A. Downs, who is retiring after 12 years in the post and 25 years with the water district.

Bieber has served as town supervisor since 2012 and was the first woman to serve in that post. The board on Monday appointed the town’s deputy supervisor, Daniel Bragg, to serve as interim supervisor through the end of the year, when Bieber’s term expires.

The Town of Royalton is celebrating its 200th anniversary and Bieber said she will continue her work as a member of the town’s Bicentennial Committee, which is organizing many events throughout the year.
