An Orchard Park man who fled from police on a Jet Ski on Chautauqua Lake on Sunday afternoon faces several charges, including boating while intoxicated, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office.
Jason Schlemmer, 35, was involved in a crash at about 4:30 p.m. on the lake in Bemus Bay. When deputies arrived, Schlemmer sped away on his personal watercraft, the Sheriff's Office said.
A patrol boat intercepted Schlemmer in the north basin of the lake, but he sped away from authorities again, the Sheriff's Office said.
Schlemmer was taken into custody after about 15 or 20 minutes after onlookers from the shore reported he was ejected from his Jet Ski, landing in the water.
Schlemmer was taken to WCA Hospital in Jamestown for observation. He was charged with boating while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test, reckless operation, two counts of failure to comply and leaving the scene of a boating accident, according to the Sheriff's Office.
