Buffalo man sentenced to 20 years for fatal shooting

A Buffalo man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in the shooting death of a Buffalo man last year.

Daren Alexis, 33, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter before state Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller, just before his jury trial was to begin last month. Alexis admitted shooting 26-year-old Jadero Kelley about 1:20 p.m. Aug. 5, 2016 near 128 French St. Kelley reportedly drove himself to Erie County Medical Center, where he died.

Had Alexis been convicted of murder, he could have faced a possible maximum sentence of 25 years to life.

Alexis was tracked down to Winston-Salem, N.C., by Buffalo police detectives and was captured with assistance from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department.
